The Old Growth Redwood Difference
The appeal of Old Growth Redwood is that it is FIRST growth, a different animal than 2nd – 5th growth redwood. Why? Because subsequent growth, once the old growth was cut, grows from the original roots and therefore grows many times faster. The speed of this growth shows its results in a much more pulpy wood with wider growth rings. These are characteristics which are very different from the Old Growth Redwood rings, which are much closer together than 2nd – 5th growth trees.
These facts make our Old Growth Redwood Shakes & Shingles much more dense and resistant to insects, moisture, and rot. Resistance that is far better than any other wood choice.
When building with natural wood, Old Growth Redwood is as good as it gets.
